Ages 3 - 5

Topics for study are captured from the talk of children, through community or family events, as well as, the known interests of children. Team planning is an essential component of the emergent curriculum. Educators work together to formulate hypotheses about the possible directions of a project, the materials needed, and possible parent and/or community support and involvement.

Welcome to Children's Place Atelier!

Children's Place Atelier is a home school serving children ages 9 months to 5 years old and their families. Located in the urban area of Los Angeles, the school is rich in love for learning and nature. Its bright and has a home-like environment, with space for active play outdoors and quiet activities. Our educational philosophy is based on the Reggio Emilia Approach. Children are viewed as protagonists in their learning and are encouraged to work in collaboration with their peers to co-construct new theories and ideas. Educators balance activities with free play in a program that helps children to develop emotionally, physically and intellectually as they learn about themselves and the world around them. Our program offers the enriching educational opportunities of a traditional preschool, combined with optional summer programs.

Our Classes

Our classes are small and personal with a ratio of 5:1; often 3:1.

"Children are autonomously capable of making meaning from their daily life experiences through mental acts involving planning, coordination of ideas, and abstraction.... The central act of adults, therefore, is to activate, especially indirectly, the meaning-making competencies of children as a basis of all learning. They must try to capture the right moments, and then find the right approaches, for bringing together, into a fruitful dialogue, their meanings and interpretations with those children." -Loris Malaguzzi
